nammAzhwAr thiruvadi thozhal (AzhwAr's divine head touching the lotus feet of emperumAn) event is the highlight of thiruvadhyayana uthsavam. As we have observed in http://sriperumbuthur.blogspot.in/2013/12/december-2013-week-1.html, http://sriperumbuthur.blogspot.in/2013/12/december-2013-week-2.html and  http://sriperumbuthur.blogspot.in/2013/12/december-2013-week-3.html , we had an eventful 3 weeks which were thoroughly enjoyable.

On this final day of thiruvAimozi thirunAL (rAppatthu), this thiruvadi thozhal event is performed. It is to commemorate the event of AzhwAr attaining paramapadham and eventually per the request of srIvaishNavas, emperumAn returning the archA thirumEni (vigraham) of AzhwAr for the upliftment of the entire world.

Here are the specific special activities which happen in srIperumbUthUr which is the avathAra (birth) sthalam (place) of srI rAmAnuja, the foremost of srIvaishNava AchAryas.

• First 9 days of rAppatthu, Adhi kEsavan emperumAn with nAchiyArs are seated in the thanga maNdapam. nammAzhwAr is seated right opposite to perumAL facing perumAL. emperumAnAr is seated in an elevated Asanam (mangaLagiri) facing thAyAr sannidhi. AzhwArs/AchAryas are seated along both sides of perumAL.

• On the tenth day during thiruvAimozhi gOshti, perumAL/thAyArs are seated at emperumAnAr's place and emperumAnAr is seated at perumAL's place. nammAzhwAr stays at the gAyathri maNdapam (down below the steps) facing perumAL. emperumAnAr being gloriously seated in the thanga maNdapam witnessing the whole events is a confirmation for "Am mudhalvan ivan" - where ALavandhAr declares emperumAnAr as the chief of srIvaishNavas and identify him as the dharsana pravarthakAchAryar (one who leads the dharsanam from the forefront). 

• During "sUzh visubaNi mugil" padhigam, AzhwAr is carried on kaiththalam (hands) by archakas towards Adhi kEsava perumAL. During the event, srIvaishNavas place their shawls (red carpet welcome!) on the floor and archakas carry AzhwAr while walking on those shawls.

• Once AzhwAr reaches perumAL, he is placed at the lotus feet of perumAL with AzhwAr's head completely touching the lotus feet of perumAL. He is then covered with vasthrams and thiruththuzhAi (thuLasi).

• As done in other dhivya dhEsams, kattiyakkArar (one who recites kattiyam) goes to emperumAn and requests that AzhwAr is returned to us for the upliftment of the entire world. emperumAn speaks through the archakar and returns AzhwAr to us.

Overall, a wonderful day. Due to adhyayana uthsavam occurring separately this time, many srIvaishNavas from nearby dhivya dhEsams participated in the whole events. It is a great blessing to witness such wonderful events in this samsAram itself. ANdAL nAchiyAr declares "vaiyaththu vAzhvIrgaL" in thiruppAvai 2nd pAsuram - meaning "ones who live gloriously in this world itself" - this is what our pUrvAchAryas emphasised too - engaging in constant kainkaryams together with bhAgavathas for archAvathAra emperumAn. Let us cherish these wonderful moments.
